Lake Facts:

  • Horwood Lake is located southwest of the town of Timmins Ontario on the south side of Hwy. 101 in the District of Sudbury
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 47° 58′ 37″ Long. 82° 19′ 34″
  • the Woman River flows into the lake on the south end at Woman River Falls (a popular spring walleye area).The Groundhog River outlet is located on the north end of the lake
  • the lake is approx. 22 km (13.7 miles) long and 7 km (4.3 miles) at its widest
    steep shoreline cliffs (that quickly drop off into the water) are a feature of Hardiman Bay
  • the lake has a “Y” shape with the southern and northeast sections of the “Y” being long and narrow. The pool at the base of the Woman River Falls reaches depths of 70′
  • the northwest part of the “Y” is relatively shallow with extensive weed beds, shoals and marshy areas. There is a lot of submerged timber in the bays and shorelines of this area
  • a boat launch is located at the end of Horwood Lake Road (which runs off of Hwy. 101
  • the major fish species include walleye, northern pike, perch and whitefish
  • there are a number of sanctuary areas on the lake
  • Horwood Lake is located within Fisheries Management Zone 8
